Mike taught and implemented flow manufacturing in over 20 different industries from pharmaceuticals, ceramics, air conditioners, to pneumatic pumps and motors, mobile phone components and many more. The cross-fertilisation of experience between these industries in multi-cultural environments in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, China and the US over the past 20 years has been a rich source of experience and therefore of customer benefit.
Each of the one hundred or so projects he worked on, mostly at mid-size enterprise level, has involved the unique application of a tried and tested flow manufacturing tool-set. This is founded on the principles of Demand Flow Technology or DFT as developed by Nobel Prize nominee in Economics for Working Capital Management, John Costanza.
The speed of response to customer demand is significantly reduced by aligning lead times of weeks or days more closely with work content times of days or even hours. Manufacturing processes are linked and synchronised in a flow from end-to-end of the order fulfilment cycle.
This has the added benefits of not only reducing costs and improving cash flow, but also of releasing quite large quantities of cash embedded in “redundant” In-Process and Finished inventories. Mike’s areas of expertise also lie within the fields of coaching and leadership of such projects.
Mike is known for his ability to identify and seize unique business improvement opportunities that deliver tangible, sustainable bottom-line client benefits with significant returns on investment.
He has an Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Leeds, and holds a Certified Diploma in Finance & Accounting obtained from the Association of Certified & Chartered Accountants (ACCA). Read more
